PK Subban Shares Tragic News With The Hockey Community

PK Subban has always had a special connection to Montreal, where he spent seven seasons playing for the Canadiens. Even now, he continues to return for visits, particularly to support the Montreal Children's Hospital.

In 2015, Subban and his foundation made a significant commitment of $10 million to the hospital, marking the largest philanthropic contribution by a Canadian athlete.

Although he later moved on to play for the Nashville Predators and the New Jersey Devils, Subban remained deeply involved in the lives of the young patients at the hospital, particularly Loic Bydal.

Tragically, Subban shared devastating news on Tuesday via his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), announcing Loic's passing. Reflecting on their bond, Subban, now a TV analyst, wrote:

"We all have the potential to be the light in someone's life. Loic and I were the light in each other's lives. That's what I get to share with all the children I encounter. Loic will be missed but never forgotten for his smile, laugh, and larger than life energy."

Loic's resilience was a source of inspiration for Subban and others, as he graduated from high school in 2021 despite facing significant health challenges. Afflicted with Morquio syndrome, a rare genetic disorder impacting various aspects of a child's health and physical abilities, Loic underwent surgery in 2012, resulting in the loss of his ability to walk and necessitating permanent ventilator support.

Despite his career transitions, Subban has remained true to his commitment to supporting the children at the Montreal Children's Hospital. Undoubtedly, he will continue to honor his dear friend Loic's memory through his dedication to this cause.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Subban, as well as to the family and friends of Loic Bydal.
