The Edmonton Oilers are facing a tough season, widely regarded as one of the most disappointing teams in the NHL. Their primary struggle revolves around goaltending, an issue that hasn't seen any resolution despite being over 20% through the season. However, there might be a change on the horizon.

Oilers Eyeing a Goalie Trade with Montreal Canadiens

As reported by TSN's Darren Dreger, the Oilers are on the verge of finalizing a deal to acquire Canadiens goaltender Sam Montembeault in exchange for assets, potentially involving player Xavier Bourgault.

"If we're connecting the dots in Edmonton one more time, guess where we're going? We're talking Xavier Bourgault and maybe something else, I don't know. I think that would get the attention of Kent Hughes in management of the Canadiens. But given where the Edmonton Oilers are maybe you can make it a little more extravagant. Maybe you can build it into something bigger. Do we say blockbuster?"

The Oilers have explored almost every avenue, including a coaching change, letting go of Jay Woodcroft, although the team was performing adequately under him. The struggle remains with goaltending, and new head coach Kris Knoblauch is getting a firsthand look at the persistent issue in Edmonton.
