The Sabres have reportedly sent a strong message regarding the future of a key forward despite rampant trade speculation, per top NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman.

The Buffalo Sabres dealt with another difficult season, once again missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 14th consecutive year, the longest drought now in the NHL.
The Sabres last qualified for the postseason in 2011, a 7-game loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.
General manager Kevyn Adams is facing increased heat and scrutiny to make the necessary moves for the Sabres to finally break their lengthy postseason streak, and one player that has repeatedly been brought up in trade talk is JJ Peterka.
Despite all the smoke surrounding Peterka, he may not be moved after all.
On his most recent '32 Thoughts' podcast, top NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman indicated that the Sabres don't appear to be trying to move on from Peterka despite outside noise.
I get told that Buffalo's active, and there was the stuff about Dahlin during the season, and I think they know their key guys want to be competitive and Buffalo is trying to make that happen.

The Peterka talk has been out there, though again, Buffalo has indicated that's something they're not really crazy about doing. But I just get people who keep saying to me, 'You've got to watch the Sabres'. They know their core guys, they want to win. Not that anyone blames them. They know exactly how their core players feel.

Peterka was taken by the Sabres with the 34th pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, and he was Buffalo's 2nd leading scorer this year with 68 points (27G, 41A) in 77 games.
He is now a pending RFA.
