The Penguins recently announced their intentions to hire a new assistant coach, and they've found their man, hiring Mike Stothers to join Dan Muse's staff.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have already made considerable changes to their coaching staff, replacing Mike Sullivan with former New York Rangers assistant Dan Muse.
Additionally, they've hired former Penguins Stanley Cup-winning forward Nick Bonino as an assistant coach.
Joining the staff is former Hershey Bears head coach Todd Nelson and Rich Clune, while Andy Chiodo was kept on as the club's goaltending coach.
However, Dubas indicated that he still intended to hire another assistant coach, and they've now found their man. The Penguins announced that they have officially hired former Anaheim Ducks assistant Mike Stothers as an assistant on Muse's staff.
As a champion at both the AHL and international levels, Mike has a tremendous track record of helping develop players and take their game to the next level, as seen throughout the multiple leagues he has coached in over the last 30 years. We're thrilled to welcome Mike to the city of Pittsburgh as he rounds out our coaching staff for the 2025-26 season.
Stothers led the AHL's Ontario Reign, the affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, to the Calder Cup championship in 2015 and also earned AHL Coach of the Year honors.
Stothers was also an assistant coach with the Atlanta Thrashers (2010-11) and Philadelphia Flyers (2000-02).
Previously, he had 30 games of NHL experience with the Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs, while also winning the Calder Cup in 1984 with the Maine Mariners.
