Insider provides the latest update on Mitch Marner situation
Mitch Marner's Future with the Toronto Maple Leafs Remains Uncertain
As mid-July rolls around, Mitch Marner is still a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Although he wasn't traded during the NHL draft in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, the possibility of a trade still looms, albeit less likely as time progresses.
Marner, part of the Maple Leafs' core four, finds himself in this situation largely due to former general manager Kyle Dubas's decision to allocate significant funds to what he considered the top four players on the team during his tenure. While a quick resolution seems unlikely, it is expected that Marner will be in the lineup on opening night in October.

Trade negotiations, especially ones of this magnitude, can take considerable time. It is probable that Marner will play out the season to assess his performance under a different coaching staff and management. Depending on how the season unfolds, Marner will then decide whether he wants to entertain the idea of staying with the team, assuming the Maple Leafs offer him a contract worth signing.
Both parties' current thoughts are unclear, but what matters is whether new GM Brad Treliving and head coach Craig Berube can work with Marner and evaluate his fit with the team. If Treliving receives an offer for Marner that he can't refuse, it could change the dynamic. However, with many variables at play, maintaining the status quo and observing the results might be the most prudent approach.
While some fans and analysts might advocate for a change, any trade should only be considered if it immediately improves the team. For now, the Maple Leafs appear set to begin the season with Marner in their lineup, and his performance will be closely scrutinized as the team navigates through the upcoming NHL season.
