Mitch Love was once seen as a potential Head Coach in the NHL, but after an investigation from the NHL, he's been suspended for the whole season.
Before hiring Dan Muse this off-season, the Pittsburgh Penguins and several other teams were interested in Washington Capitals assistant and former Calgary Wranglers Head Coach Dan Muse as their potential next Head Coach.
However, that interest quickly went away in shocking circumstances, with the Capitals officially announcing that the 41-year old was
placed on leave pending an investigation from Gary Bettman and the National Hockey League into major allegations against him.
Washington Capitals Hand Down Major Suspension For Love
Now, after over a month since that announcement by the Capitals, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has announced the latest on social media, revealing a full season long suspension in 2025/26 by the Capitals for the once very promising assistant.
Unfortunately, Seravalli also revealed the nature of the allegations, and given how seriously the NHL takes this type of thing, it's safe to say that this was the right decision after an investigation into the situation.
It's highly unlikely that the league will ever reveal exactly what was involved in those allegations, but seemingly, there was enough behind them to justify the full season long suspension, which isn't a good look for the 41-year old.
Now, fans will wait to see what the future holds for Love, as there's a good chance that the Capitals may simply move on from him whenever possible, and despite once having a very promising future, this may be the end of his Head Coach goals in the NHL.
