Former Stanley Cup Champion gives up on NHL dream at just 28-years-old
In 2018 Madison Bowey was on top of that world. He'd just won his first Stanley Cup and appeared to be in his way to a very promising NHL career. Unfortunately for Bowey injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic stunted his development.
Fast forward and after two full years in the AHL, according to Russian media outlet, Metaratings.ru, Bowey has officially made the decision and is heading to the KHL.
Reports state Bowey is close to signing a one-year deal with the KHL's lone team in Belarus, Dinamo Minsk. Dinamo's roster features multiple former NHLers, including Gemel Smith, Nick Merkley, Alexander Volkov and Dylan Ferguson.
The 28-year-old was selected 53rd overall by the Washington Capitals in 2013. Bowey spent parts of two seasons in the NHL with them. Last season, Bowey played for the Laval Rocket of the AHL while under contract with the Montreal Canadiens. In 35 games, the Winnipeg native put up 13 points (four goals, nine assists), 24 penalty minutes and was a minus-three.
