Ilya Samsonov addresses the media on how he truly feels about game 7
After a dramatic Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Ilya Samsonov faced the press today during the team's end-of-season interviews.
Samsonov, who was unexpectedly called to start after Joseph Woll sustained an injury, expressed his disappointment over the game's outcome.
Joseph Woll had delivered two crucial wins for the Leafs in Games 5 and 6, but with his sudden injury, Coach Sheldon Keefe turned to Samsonov for the decisive game.
Samsonov, stepping in under pressure, managed to block 32 of the 34 shots he faced. However, it was the game-deciding goal that slipped past him, leading to the Leafs' exit from the playoffs.
During the interview, Samsonov addressed his performance by saying he needed to be better against Boston, after reflecting on the critical moments of the game.
Despite the setback, Samsonov expressed a strong desire to stay with the team, highlighting his love for the city and his teammates as his contract comes to an end.
"Ilya Samsonov says he doesn't remember the last time he felt this down and adds "I needed to play better" in the series against Boston.
On his status as a pending UFA, he says: "I love this city. Love everybody on this team."
