It was a hard reality for many fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs to see longtime Leaf and local Ontario boy Mitch Marner wearing the sweater of another team.
The Mitch Marner era with the Toronto Maple Leafs ended with a dud in terms of Stanley Cups and overall playoff success, as they only advanced past the ECQF twice during his overall tenure.
Marner put up plenty of great numbers during the regular season, but was largely absent in the postseason, which included only a single assist over the last 4 games of last year's ECSF matchup against the divisional foe Florida Panthers, who won in 7 games.
Marner was also especially criticized for a completely careless pass in Game 5 of the series that led directly to a Panthers goal, while he also went viral on social media for screaming at his teammates in frustration in the midst of the Game 7 loss.
Mitch Marner appears on the ice in Golden Knights colours for the 1st time
Marner has worn the Vegas sweater several times now in media appearances, but has now been pictured for the 1st time in full Golden Knights gear on the ice, drawing instant reactions ranging from regret to how things ended in Toronto to outright disdain.
Last year in what was his last with the Leafs, Marner had a career-best 102 points (27G, 75A).
