The San Jose Sharks have officially revealed their selection as the first overall choice in the NHL Entry Draft of this year.

Every young athlete hopes to be selected first overall in the NHL entry draft one day. Regretfully, only one player can receive this accolade each year, despite the efforts of all the players. The San Jose Sharks were awarded the privilege of selecting first overall this year after winning the NHL draft lottery.

Tonight, the Sharks were the first club on the podium, formally confirming the truth of one of the NHL's worst-kept secrets. Nobody was surprised when the Sharks chose to choose Macklin Celebrini first overall.

The 18-year-old center played for Boston University last season, where he finished with 32 goals and 32 assists in 38 contests. At 190 pounds, the 6-foot center is expected to be a can't miss prospect. It's still unclear whether Celbrini intends to return to Boston University for one more year or make the switch to the NHL for the upcoming season.

This selection strengthens the San Jose Sharks prospect pool and should provide hope in the team's supporters as they watch them attempt to eventually finish their total reconstruction.
