Multi-time Stanley Cup winner hangs up the skates for the final time
Decided to call an end to their career can be the toughest decisions a player will have to make. Many times players decide to come out of retirement and return to play in different leagues. That was the case for Niklas Hjalmarsson, however now it sounds like his career is finally over.
Hjalmarsson originally came out of retirement last year to play with HV71 of the SHL. He captained the team last season before announcing his retirement once again.
Hjalmarsson, 36, played in the NHL for 14 seasons. He played for the Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes before returning to Sweden. In 821 NHL games he had 172 points (25 goals and 147 assists). Last season he skated in 17 games with HV71 collecting just 3 assists.
Maybe the second time is the charm, all the best in retirement, Niklas!
