Everyone in LA thought they drafted the next successor to Anze Kopitar when selecting Quinton Byfield 2nd overall in the 2020 NHL draft. The potential of having a one two punch of Kopitar and Byfield had Kings fans salivating. Unfortunately Byfield has fell short of expectations.

General Manager Rob Blake acquired Pierre- Luc Dubois this off-season in a sign and trade deal with the Winnipeg Jets. LA now have their top two centers Dubois and Kopitar locked up for multiple seasons. This has made Byfield expendable.

According to NHL Trade Rumors , the Boston Bruins are interested in acquiring the 21 year old forward.

Byfield played 53 games for the Kings last season scoring 3 goals and 22 points while averaging 14:03 in ice time. When he was playing in the AHL he averaged almost a point per game, (16 GP 9G and 15P) pretty average numbers for a top two pick.

Boston is tight against the cap and desperate for help at the center ice position with captain Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci retiring this offseason. Byfield has a cap hit of $894,167 and will be an RFA after the season.

According to NHL Trade Rumors a potential trade offer would include both a 1st round pick and top prospect Fabian Lysell heading to LA in exchange for Byfield.
