Jack Edwards, a prominent figure in the hockey world known for his passionate broadcasts of Boston Bruins games on NESN, has recently become a subject of controversy due to speech issues. While beloved by Bruins fans, others find his style irritating. Now, the 66-year-old broadcaster is shedding light on his struggles.
In an interview with the Boston Globe, Edwards acknowledged his speech challenges but emphasized that medical tests have ruled out serious health concerns like cancer, dementia, or stroke."I did not have some kind of accident. I do not have cancer. I don't have dementia. I haven't had a stroke. All of that's been confirmed by Mass. General neurology.

To address these challenges, Edwards undergoes extensive speech therapy, dedicating 40 to 60 minutes on non-game days and 10 minutes on game days. His future in the broadcasting booth depends on the effectiveness of this therapy.
"The way I see it, two things work to my disadvantage; the game is speeding up all the time. And I'm slowing down all the time."
"I'm treating it like an in-season injury, something that's going to get better. If I, or NESN, decide that I'm hurting the product or costing the fans an enjoyable experience, I will say goodbye. But we haven't had any discussions like that.
