After a promising start to their series against
the Florida Panthers, the Toronto Maple Leafs failed to play at their best level throughout the latter stages, eventually falling 6-1 at home in both Game's 5 and 7 to again be eliminated by their fierce
Atlantic Division rivals.
Not only did they lose, but they were absolutely dominated twice on home ice, and after the game, Head Coach Craig Berube addressed that, noting that the team simply didn't handle the pressure of a big game well enough.
We just didn't handle the pressure that they came with... Wasn't good enough.
When asked specifically about how the team were dominated in Game's 5 and 7 however, Berube simply didn't have an answer, as he was just as dumfounded as the team on the ice and the fans watching at home and in the arena.
«It's frustrating. I don't have an answer for that question.»
The difference at the end of the day appeared to be the Panthers desperation, and given that they've played in two straight Stanley Cup Finals, that's the type of thing that comes with experience, with Berube seeing that difference tonight in Game 7.
Ultimately, Toronto played well throughout the post-season this year, pushing to Game 7 of the second round, but it was the more experienced Florida team to come out on top in the end, and now, Berube will head into the summer looking to take this team further in 2026.
