Mike Babcock shocked the hockey world when he stepped down as head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday afternoon, ahead of the conclusion of the investigation from the NHLPA into allegations brought forward by Spittin' Chiclets co-host Paul Bissonnette.
Bissonnette had revealed last week that Babcock had used his position to gain access to players' phones to view photos in an attempt to get to know them better. Apparently, per Bissonnette's allegations, Babcock crossed lines with a number of players on the team, leading to the NHLPA investigation.
Babcock's time in the NHL should have been over after his treatment of a rookie Mitch Marner came to light, leading to a number of other former players who played under Babcock airing their grievances with the head coach on social media and in interviews. The hire in Columbus was an ill-advised one in the first place and I don't know how surprised anyone really is that he crossed lines once again, as he has clearly done many times in the past.
