Playing in the NHL is something that every young hockey player aspires to do. Unfortunately, for those that accomplish that goal, it's not always the dream they had envisioned. The speed and intensity with which the players play often leads to injury. Some injuries are pretty routine to bounce back from, while others are a lot more difficult.

31-year-old Joonas Donskoi was one of the players who made it, amassing 7 seasons in the NHL. Unfortunately for the winger, that's where his career will end, following a series of concussions that have left him unable to resume his career.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Donskoi has officially retired this summer due to his latest concussion, suffered last year as a member of the Seattle Kraken. Donskoi's most recent concussion was suffered during last pre-season and cost the 31-year-old his entire 2022-23 season.

Donskoi spent time with the San Jose Sharks, Colorado Avalanche and Seattle Kraken in his career, skating in 474 games, scoring 80 goals and adding 128 assists for a total of 208 career points.

It's certainly an unfortunate way to go, but we wish Joonas all the best on whatever comes next as his pro hockey career comes to a close.
